4 Panel Florentine Italian Dressing Screen
Located in Swedesboro, NJ
This elegant Florentine four-panel dressing screen, dating to the 1940s era, is a striking example of Italian decorative artistry, combining Old World craftsmanship with timeless European glamour. Handcrafted in the Florentine tradition, the screen features rich gilt decoration set against a softly aged ground, enhanced by a desirable crackled finish that gives the piece warmth, depth, and authentic vintage character. Each panel is adorned with ornate classical motifs, including scrolling foliage, urns, and stylized floral designs, rendered in luminous gold tones. The symmetrical composition and refined ornamentation reflect the influence of earlier Renaissance and Baroque designs, while the clean panel proportions give the screen versatility for both traditional and eclectic interiors. The gently distressed surface adds visual texture and a sense of history, making this screen as decorative as it is functional. Perfectly scaled, this four-panel screen can be used as a dressing screen, room divider, or decorative backdrop, ideal for bedrooms, salons, dressing rooms, or retail and display environments. When fully extended, it creates an elegant architectural presence; when folded, it offers flexible placement and easy storage. Dimensions (each panel): 78 1/8" H × 20" W × 1 3/4" D Condition: Paint loss and minor surface scratches present, consistent with age and use, contributing to the authentic patina. A beautiful example of mid-20th-century Florentine gilt furniture, this screen offers timeless Italian elegance, refined craftsmanship, and enduring decorative appeal.
