About the Item

Riveted and welded steel cylinder cart featuring spoked cast-iron wheels, a curved handle frame, and an original safety chain across the front. Designed for hauling heavy gas or oxygen cylinders in industrial or automotive shops, the cart's construction reflects the early standardization of material handling equipment during America's machine-age manufacturing boom. Its narrow stance and tall handle allowed a single operator to maneuver pressurized tanks safely across uneven factory floors. Unmarked but typical of early 20th-century Midwestern industrial suppliers, these carts were built for endurance, often found in foundries, service garages, and machine shops where oxy-acetylene welding was in use.
