About the Item

A handsome rectangular British military officer's Campaign trunk or stationery box of teak featuring hand-cut brass binding and hardware, with flush opposing handles, and inlaid brass work with a foliate design in the Anglo-Indian style on the top and front. Resting on raised decorative feet. Campaign-era trunks and coffers were the travel items of British military officers who bought and commissioned them for their campaigns abroad to India and Ceylon (The Raj); indeed, the whole of the British Empire. The officers, being predominately from the upper classes, were accustomed to a certain standard of living and found it unthinkable to travel without their necessaries.
