About the Item

A fantastic antique marriage or bridal box–from Normandy, France–the petite trunk is decorated with stylized foliate details that grace the exterior. Once-vibrant pink and cream painted flowers (appearing as pale circles against the dark blue background) grow from bright green leaves–all marvelously patinated over the past two centuries, expressing the trunk’s age in a manner that one can both see and feel. The minimal metal hardware has all been worked by hand. The domed top provides a distinguished style that sets this exceptional coffer apart from any ordinary box, circa 1780.
