About the Item

The colorful blue paint is all original on this beautiful flat top trunk. Flowers were a traditional embellishment as seen on the front of this handcrafted trunk with monogram (BPD?) and date of 1858, indicating it was likely a wedding or dowry present. This trunk has original iron side handles, straps and corners. Note photo of interior that reveals a small box to store smaller personal items. Restored, strong and stable, this pine trunk is ready to be used and enjoyed. Wax finish. Lock and key. The painted finish is worn down to the pine below in several areas, reflecting generations of use. All scratches, cracks, nicks, dings, stains (see top) and age related separation (see top) are reflective of age and do not detract from the beauty nor function of this chest.
