About the Item
Crafted in France circa 1920, this graceful antique hall tree is executed in the style of German-Austrian cabinetmaker Michael Thonet (1796–1871), known for his mastery of steam-bent woodwork. Made from richly patinated beechwood, the unique piece features eight dual hooks arranged in unique rare double two fixed tiers, offering ample space for hats, coats, and scarves. The upper and lower levels each include eight bentwood arms with curled terminals and turned ball ends, combining elegance with utility. Below, a third ring of scrollwork is designed for storing umbrellas or walking sticks. The central column is finely turned and rises from a four-legged splayed base, each leg formed from gracefully bent wood that reinforces the sculptural quality of the piece.
A stylish and practical addition to any entryway, mudroom, or retail environment. The coat rack is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich patinated walnut finish. A true one-of-a-kind!
