About the Item
Large magazine or post rack by Conrad Fehn, 1920s, numbered 272 at the back.
Racks with these sort of Batik style decorations with a number at the back are known to be from the Haarlem workshop where Conrad Fehn worked from 1914.
There is growing interest in the work of Conrad Fehn, partly due to the exhibition including his work in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
Conrad Fehn was born in 1891 in Nuremberg, and in 1914 he moved to Haarlem where he started his own workshop workshop. The copper objects sometimes have a monogram on them (Gegarandeerd Handwerk Conrad Fehn Haarlem). The wooden objexts were numbered. Fehn also worked with the famous furniture designer and manufacturing firm "Het Binnenhuis'' in Amsterdam.
Conrad Fehn is also mentioned and discussed in the famous book about Amstyerdam School, titled (translated) "Living amongst Amsterdamse School".
