Jacques Adnet (1900–1984)
Jacques Adnet was one of the most influential French designers of the 20th century and a key figure in the transition from Art Deco to Mid-Century Modern design. Trained at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, Adnet became known for his innovative use of materials, particularly his pioneering integration of leather with metal and glass in furniture design.
In the postwar period, Adnet played a major role in redefining French decorative arts, creating furniture that combined functionality, comfort, and understated luxury. He also served as artistic director of the Compagnie des Arts Français, where he promoted a modern yet refined vision of interior design.
Today, Jacques Adnet’s works are highly regarded for their timeless design, craftsmanship, and versatility, and remain sought after by collectors of French Mid-Century Modern furniture.
