Antique and unique Swiss black forest stand. This sizable and top quality carved Black Forest book stand is another one of our unique offerings to the 1stdibs community this week. The quality of the details in the head, in the spread wings and in the branches that make the base, is right up there with the best we have ever seen. If you have really good eyes then you can see a restauration on the back where there once was a crack. However, when placed on a sidetable or credenza (or wherever you want to showcase this antique), no one will notice. Also, because the intricacy is so overwhelming that no one will notice the minor restauration. The actual bookstand on which we displayed a small book sideways (in image7) is in mint condition and can be folded open and 'shut' by means of the original brass hinges. The book we displayed here is about the same size as an open folded, small bible from the late 19th century.
