About the Item
This colorful blueish umbrella stand belongs to the much vaster production of plastic furnishing items of Sormani.
Roberto Lera, an eclectic designer of the early Seventies from Turin, Italy, designed many compact items for Sormani. All pieces (shelving units, chairs, sofas, accessories) were colorful, easy-to-assemble, easy-to-clean and easy-to-fit in any environment.
In the mid-1960s, Luigi Sormani wanted to "make furniture like cars" and set up a thermoformed plastic production unit, where he manufactured any kind of furniture.
The sculptural PO40 umbrella stand is an accessory that witnesses that adventurous era.
It is in very good condition; shows some minor wear and tear and a minor, invisible crack on the inside.
The piece comes with a certificate of origin on original letterhead of the manufacturer.
