A very rare 19th Century original Black Forest bear stick or umbrella stand. This finely hand carved animalier sculpture executed with incredible workmanship and attention to detail depicts a bear in upright pose holding an oval shaped tree branch which forms the holder for canes, walking sticks and umbrellas, all supported on a naturalistic tree stump base with removable metal drip pan, labelled verso ‘Chalet Minerve Chalet Suisse … elle Egger … Sesti Brügger … sculptures artistiques, INTERLAKEN’.
