About the Item
A Portuguese ceramic umbrella stand by RCCL Pottery. Round and embossed, the umbrella stand is hand painted with long scrolls and floral sprays. The rim and foot are decorated with a serpentine edge. Marked underneath ‘Handpainted RCCL Portugal’.
RCCL pottery established in Portugal in the mid-20th century, becoming known for its meticulous attention to detail and emphasis on hand-crafted quality. The pottery combined traditional Portuguese motifs with modern aesthetics, often featuring bold colors, intricate textures, and artistic glazing techniques. In the 1970’s they saw an increased demand from overseas markets, exporting to countries across Europe and North America. Signature RCCL designs highlight nature-inspired themes, flora and fauna motifs, and vibrant colors and patterns characteristic of Portuguese culture.
