About the Item

This umbrella stand is defined by four long lines of iron, shaped by Salvino Marsura to resemble river reeds or wild grasses. A loosely coiled circle nestles at the top, while the stand perches on a textured base with four small feet. The piece is in good condition, with some patination true to its age. Salvino Marsura (1938-2020) was an artisan metalworker. After learning his craft in the dynamic workshop of sculptor and ‘iron poet’ Toni Benetton, he spent more than 60 years producing sculpture, furniture, objects and memorials in his hometown of Treviso, Italy. Marsura’s ironwork art and furniture relishes in the manual aesthetic of the forge, giving voice to the raw metal and the processes of its manipulation including sweltering heat, hammering, bending and welding. His distinctive hand marries elements of brutalism and traditional decorative arts. H60 W27 D28cm
