About the Item

This pillow incorporates an authentic fragment from a 17th century Flemish tapestry, hand woven in wool using traditional European loom techniques. During this period, Flemish workshops were internationally respected for producing tapestries of exceptional quality for noble and ecclesiastical patrons. The surviving section presents a softened landscape composition, now abstracted by time, with layered earth tones and traces of vegetal and architectural forms. The surface displays age related characteristics including wear, subtle color shifts, and areas of thinning, all consistent with early tapestry production and long term use. The textile has been carefully conserved and adapted as a decorative pillow, supported by a linen backing to ensure stability while preserving the integrity of the original weave.
