About the Item

This is a stunning piece of late 19th century Ewe textile from the Volta region of Ghana. All handspun heavier weight cotton and all natural dyes . This piece would have been woven for a high ranking chiefs wife who would have been in charge of the Chiefs kitchen. The colour combination and design are striking to say the least and designates the owners status. The Ewe stiching on the border translates as 'Head of the Table' Giving the owner the Chief's authority in the Kitchen. The piece would make a bold item of decoration and statement or a fine table cloth or even a bright bed cover.
