About the Item

Fez embroidery was among the most sophisticated textile arts of Morocco, practiced by women in domestic settings and highly prized as part of marriage furnishings. The geometric patterning resonates with Andalusian and Islamic artistic traditions, reflecting the long cultural exchanges across North Africa and the Mediterranean. This style of embroidery, worked in counted-thread techniques, was a hallmark of Fez textile artistry. Such panels were traditionally used in domestic interiors as decorative hangings, covers, or parts of dowry trousseaux, where they symbolized refinement, protection, and baraka (blessing). Condition:
Well-preserved with minor age-related wear and light staining to the cotton field, consistent with use.
