About the Item

A spectacular antique Rose du Barry Damask banquet table service in the Louis XV style comprised of a tablecloth, 120.75 inches by 63.5 inches and a set of twelve matching napkins, 20.25 inches square in superb condition. This color was created in honor of Madame du Barry, a favorite of Louis XV, who was widely admired for her exquisite taste. Loomed of a weighty elegant rose damask of contrasting satin and matte textures with hand finished hems and finely embroidered initials DRG. Both the tablecloth and napkins have a beautifully proportioned pattern of foliate scrolls in the classic French style. The tablecloth's two fine script monograms are on each side of rectangular center. Each of the napkins is monogramed in a central square surrounded by a crest shaped device with a luxurious scroll frame. This elegant dusky rose color is rarely seen in table linens and the effect, when fully displayed is unforgettable. This service likely dates from the turn of the Twentieth Century. The quality, design and hand finished details make this a marvelous find for lavish, memorable celebrations.
