About the Item

The Otilia hand finished organic wave design wool blanket/throw has been created by an incredible and unique family owned weaving and textile company in Portugal. This company impressed us so much by their commitment to working with the environment, their dedication to their community and their heart centred manufacturing process. The family have been in the wool business for generations from 1980. They then took a big leap into helping to resurrect a dying industry that was due to be lost forever. Restoring local unused machinery and buying antique looms and equipment they took over a long abandoned factory that had hystorically made carpets. They set about reviving a dying industry and preserving local skills that Portugal had once been admired and respected for. The Story starts with an inherited family knowledge in the ethical wool industry. The wool process includes naturally picking, scouring, combing, spinning and dyeing and then weaving on antique looms. The woollen blankets are all a blend of Marino and other varieties of local wool. All the products are carefully finished by hand for a beautiful detailed and high quality product. The patterns are consciously chosen using sacred geometric designs, reimagined and updated traditional designs with beautiful colours chosen to lift the soul and elevate ones mood. Colours are carefully mixed using natural dyes inspired by nature from the local countryside in the heart of Portugal. The wool is carefully handled, washed and naturally treated to give a luxurious soft finish, giving you a guarantee of luxury, quality and resilience. The power of the diamond shape in sacred geometry depicts the value in immaculate beauty. Its physical appearance is associated with living a meaningful life with purity, clarity and wisdom. Each piece is carefully finished by hand using local craftsmen bringing their dedication to beauty into every piece. At this unusual time in history, we are in need of all the comforts when we are home. Warmth and comfort are synonymous and a necessity rather than a luxury.
