About the Item

Maharam pillow Mela 002 Ash Kestler’s collections from her travels, such as painted masks, toys, and adornments have had a distinct impact on her creative process at large. Each motif incorporates numerous associations ranging from botanical, geometric, figurative, architectural, or spiritual that are distilled into boldly stylized, universal symbols. Symmetry, simplicity, and large open areas bring levity to Kestler’s rich pattern language. Mela is modernized by crisp lines and a matte surface afforded by fine cotton and nylon. Bolstered by a large, twenty-eight-inch repeat, Mela is further amplified by imaginative mixing of six weft colors to create additional tones. Founded in 1902, Maharam offers a comprehensive collection of textiles for commercial and residential interiors. Maharam pillows feature celebrated textile designs from the 20th-21st centuries, from re-editions of the work of Charles and Ray Eames, Alexander Girard and Verner Panton to recent collaborations with Hella Jongerius, Paul Smith, Scholten Baijings, and Studio Job. Sonnhild Kestler (b. 1963, Switzerland) is a textile designer and hand-screen printer who graduated from Zürich University of the Arts. Her work emphasizes dynamic pattern compositions, vibrant color, and ornate graphics. Along with textiles for interiors, Kestler creates home and fashion accessories for her Zürich-based label, S.K. Hand-Druck. 70% Cotton, 19% Solution-Dyed Nylon, 11% Post-Consumer Recycled Polyester. Cotton insert with down and feather fill. Pattern variation will occur. Dry clean only.
