Maharam pillow Spindle by Hella Jongerius 002 Lithic Designed by Hella Jongerius, Spindle's design derives from Jongerius's interest in process and weaving, which was the subject of her 2021 exhibition Hella Jongerius: Woven Cosmos at Berlin's Gropius Bau. The design interprets a series of handmade ropes made for the exhibition's installation and representing the central role of spinning and weaving in cultures worldwide. Hues of turquoise, bronze, and indigo are complemented by the nuance of heathered wool grounds. Founded in 1902, Maharam offers a comprehensive collection of textiles for commercial and residential interiors. Maharam pillows feature celebrated textile designs from the 20th and 21st centuries, from re-editions of the work of Charles and Ray Eames, Alexander Girard and Verner Panton to recent collaborations with Hella Jongerius, Paul Smith, Scholten Baijings, and Studio Job. Hella Jongerius (b. 1963, the Netherlands) is an industrial designer working from her Berlin-based studio, Jongeriuslab. Since graduating from Design Academy Eindhoven (the Netherlands) in 1993, Jongerius has fused industry to craft, high technology to low, and tradition to the contemporary by reintroducing an artisanal hand to the industrial process throughout her work with furniture, ceramics, and textiles. The Dutch design collective Droog produced much of her early work, while later she developed in-depth relationships with companies such as Vitra, IKEA, Nymphenburg Porcelain Manufactory, and the Japanese design firm Cibone. 46% wool, 28% solution-dyed nylon, 23% cotton, 3% rayon.
