About the Item

Napoleonic Empire cushion gold cannetille embroidered on silk satin. Cushion with a rich, colorful, heavenly and luxurious appaerance. Made of genuine satin and woven silk 19th century embroidered garments (probably chasuble) very delicate silk with gothic cross pattern composed of leaves. Each corner terminates in a flat woven knot with a tassel. Condition: good, minute wear but an genuine antique hand crafted piece unique fully handcrafted, down filled. Width 23.6 in - 60cm Height 17 in - 43cm Depth 6 in - 15cm Empire is an early 19th century design movement in architecture, furniture, other decorative arts and visual arts. It represents the 2nd phase of neoclassicism. Popular between 1800 and 1815, the period of the Consulate and the First French Empire, although it lasted until the late 1820s. The Empire style originated in France from which it spread to Europe and the United States. The Empire style derives its name from the reign of Emperor Napoleon I in the First French Empire, when it was intended to idealize Napoleon's leadership and the French state. The previous fashionable style in France was the Directoire style, which replaced the neoclassicism of the Louis XVI style with more restrained and minimalist forms. The new Empire style brought a full return to ostentatious wealth.
