19th century Antique Flemish Tapestry Pillow - throw cushion with incredible detail and texture. Style: Antique, Medieval, Flemish, Neo Renaissance, Allegorical Origin: Flanders, Belgium 19th century The cushion display an intricate allegorical floral mille fleur design with animals embroidered needlepoint on the handwoven tapestry. Colors: Blue, green, pink - rose, yellowish brown, cream The fabulous colors combined and woven into this piece work together creating a refined look. Millefleurs (thousand flowers) tapestries became popular in the late Middle Ages. This handwoven embroidered antique piece of art is a captivating vision of woven beauty. The cushion is blue velvet backed, metallic threat trimmed and terminates in each corner with a metallic hand crafted tassel, down filled. Condition: good solid condition, gold metallic cord trim is loose a one point ( see pictures) Width 23.6in - 60cm Height 15.7in - 40cm Depth 5.9 - 15cm The roots of needlepoint go back thousands of years to the ancient Egyptians. The oldest needlepoint known dates back around 1500 BC Tapestry is mostly done on a larger scale, while needlepoint items are usually smaller. Both needlepoint and tapestry can be made using various materials, amongst wool, silk, and cotton thread.
