Pair of 17th Century Tapestry Pillows.
1) Tapestry panel of brightly a brightly colored parrot amidst lush fruiting branches, representing a harmonious balance of nature, and applied to feather filled pillow backed with 19th century velvet and period braid trim. Dimensions: 19.5" X 18.75" x 7".
2) Brightly colored tapestry fragment of maiden, a symbol of purity and love, holding a candle at an urn. Backed with feather filled 19th century velvet and bordered with period metallic trim. Dimensions: 22" x 19" x 7".
These motifs and subjects often reflected the broader cultural interests of the time. The velvet backing was used to enhance the luxurious feel of these textiles and gave them added durability.
