About the Item
These hand-crafted throw pillows were designed by a local Chicago artist and textile historian who lovingly repurposes the vintage fabrics, garments and embroidery fragments she collects during her travels.
Down-filled and backed with off-white linen, each pillow is faced with a vintage raffia textile from the Kuba people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Likely fragments of a wrapped skirt known as tcaka, the geometric textiles are comprised of many small panels of hand-woven raffia fiber, each stitched together to form a checkerboard pattern of brown, black and tan.
