An exceptionally rare and magnificent Italian Venetian pillow dating to circa 1590, showcasing the opulence and artistry of late Renaissance textiles from Venice, Italy.
This exquisite piece is crafted from rich crimson velvet and silk, lavishly embellished with couched gold and silver threads forming elaborate floral and foliate motifs characteristic of high-period Venetian workmanship.
The pillow features deep, saturated colors, striking raised velvet patterns, and finely detailed metallic embroidery. A new backing has been sensitively added for stability, and a few areas have been carefully re-sewn/restored, ensuring structural integrity while preserving the original textile. Despite its age, the pillow survives in good condition, displaying the luxurious textures and masterful techniques that made Venetian textiles some of the most coveted in Europe during the Renaissance.
