About the Item
This exquisite textile was created in England in the early 20th century, when the Arts
Crafts style was in fashion in the decorative arts. The movement championed traditional methods of working by hand to create beautiful objects which were then decorated with motifs and patterns inspired by nature. Arts
Crafts practitioners created a variety of objects, including metalwork, jewelry, wallpaper, textiles and furniture. Because of the influence of the Arts
Crafts movement, art needlework panels like this one became fashionable in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They were made to decorate screens, walls and furniture.
The panel is a vibrant red color and it is decorated with light-blue stylised entwined branches and flower heads. These flowers contain small red and white blooms on leafy yellow stems. The blue branches and flowers form shaped diamond patterns which cover the field of the panel. Leafy yellow vines and white flowers are then woven between the blue diamonds. The field is framed by a red border which is decorated with yellow and blue flower trails.

Uzbekistan, Early 20th Century
Length 161cm, width 161cm
Exquisitely handcrafted and embroidered in the early 20th century, this Bolinpush suzani hails from the historic town of Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
The textile’s design centres on a petite marigold bloom, with larger, similar forms alternating between rich maroon and marigold shades emanating from it. Surrounding these are abstract, symmetrical black floral motifs within a maroon border, complemented by repeated black and maroon patterns. The suzani is framed by embroidered borders in maroon and cream, before ending in a striking, black-coloured textile edge.

Large Romanian Knotted Carpet, Attributed to Tuduc
By Theodor Tuduc 1
Located in London, GB
This beautiful, vibrant carpet has been attributed to the important Romanian carpet-maker, Theodor Tuduc (1888-1893). Tuduc ran a prestigious workshop in the 19th century which specialised in the restoration and replication of antique rugs. This item, for instance, is one of a small group of carpets which were knotted after early Caucasian ‘dragon’ rugs. Tuduc's copies of antique rugs were so beautiful and accurate that they have become almost as collectable as the originals.
The carpet field is knotted with beautiful stylised depictions of animals, birds and dragons, as well as fruit trees, flowers, and foliage. These designs have been rendered in red, orange, light blue, turquoise, navy, green, mustard yellow, and off-white. This field is set within a border, knotted with similarly colored foliate motifs against an off-white background.

Antique Handmade Hooked Rug in Red with Floral patterns, from Rug
Kilim
Located in Long Island City, NY
This 6x10 antique hooked rug is believed to be a rare Tetex rug—a curation from the Rug & Kilim Collection. Handmade with wool and originating from Germany circa 1920-1930, its design enjoys beige-brown and navy blue floral patterns on a red field.
On the Design:
Connoisseurs may admire this piece as a European take on Oriental rug designs—a rich piece of artistry and history. The distinctive hooked technique lends a unique texture to the rug, adding a more impressionistic, playful feel to its traditional sensibility. The rich red field, with subtle rust accents, creates a natural background for the impressive range of vibrant colors. Few rugs in its era, and even fewer in this rare provenance, boast this sheer range of hues and the attention to detail in its all over pattern. It’s a regal piece, yet full of whimsy and personal touches that distinguish it among similar curations today.
