About the Item
This is a very rare example of Ewe Kente textile from the Volta region of Ghana. Woven in handspun cotton with all natural dyes in classic Autumnal Ewe hues. This piece would have been woven for a very high ranking chief wealthy enough to afford the services of an expert weaver.
The piece is covered in many floating motifs indicating the owners wealth and status within the community.
This has been a much loved piece and is in exceptional condition for its age of more than 150 years. The seams have been re stitched over the millenia but does not detract from the overall aesthetics of the piece.
