The central field is rendered in a contrasting solid black, creating a striking visual balance and framing the intricate design.
Originating from Kashmir, these shawls—sometimes called “Paisley” or “Piano” shawls—became highly fashionable in Europe during the Victorian era, especially after Queen Victoria popularized them. The design and craftsmanship of these Indian shawls later inspired the iconic production of similar pieces in Paisley, Scotland, throughout the 19th century.
