An exceptional, fine and impressive, comprehensive antique English sterling silver Sandringham pattern flatware service for twelve persons - boxed; an addition to our flatware collection The pieces of this magnificent and comprehensive antique George V English sterling silver flatware service for twelve persons are crafted in the Sandringham pattern. Each spoon and fork is embellished with a paralleling border to the handle, in addition to a pointed terminal. The original table and dessert knives, in addition to the carving set are fitted with composite handles, and the fish service and fruit service all retain the original plain rounded mother of pearl handles; each with plain ferrules. This antique canteen of cutlery contains 185 pieces: Basic Service: 12 Table knives 12 Table forks 6 Table/serving spoons 12 Soup spoons 12 Dessert knives 12 Dessert forks 12 Dessert spoons 12 Fish forks 12 Fish knives 12 Fruit forks 12 Fruit knives 12 Teaspoons 12 Grapefruit spoons 12 Egg spoons Additional Pieces: Fish serving knife Fish serving fork Soup ladle Pair of sauce ladles Pair of fruit serving spoons Pair of butter knives Pair of salt spoons Pair of mustard spoons Pair of jam spoons Sugar tongs Pickle fork Bread knife Large carving knife Large carving fork Small carving knife Small carving fork Sharpening steel This impressive service benefits from an extensive range of serving pieces, incorporating an exceptional matching silver fish and dessert service. The fundamental pieces of the basic service were crafted by the Sheffield silversmith Emile Viner of Viner's Ltd between 1934-1939; these pieces will have been crafted in fewer years but due to the hallmarking system the components bear the date letters 'r', 's', 't', 'u', 'v' and 'w'. This service will have been retailed as a complete set and between the dates stated. The stainless steel blades of the original composite handled table and dessert knives bear the mark 'By Appointment to the Late King George V, Viners Ltd, Sheffield' accented with 'Stainless Deluxe'. This impressive canteen of cutlery is fitted to the original, fine and impressive oak three draw canteen table; this is an impressive piece of furniture in its own right. The table is fitted with a pair of Art Deco style gilt metal handles to each drawer, in addition to plain escutcheons. This exceptional cutlery table is supported by four plain legs with tapering knopped feet. Condition The Sandringham pattern cutlery service within this antique cutlery canteen table is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The service has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The table box has been professionally polished by a cabinet maker. The velvet interior of each draw has some wear in keeping with age, but can be considered to be in presentation condition. Full hallmarks struck to the reverse surface of each piece are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.
