Antique Ivory French Aubusson Rug. Size: 10 ft x 13 ft 6 in
Located in New York, NY
Stunning antique French Aubusson rug, country of origin: France, date circa 1900 - Size: 10 ft x 13 ft 6 in (3.05 m x 4.11 m).
This delicate French Aubusson rug has a dreamy, romantic feel. It was created around the turn of the 20th century. Even though it is over 100 years old, it is the perfect piece for several contemporary design trends.
This piece is recognizably an Aubusson that uses softer pinks and pastels, which is a hallmark of Aubusson works. This carpet is a finely woven tapestry. It has a backing to protect it from wear. The design has a Rococo feel with its sweeping curves, scrollwork, and trompe l’oeil floral patterns. Curvy, natural forms are a characteristic of late Baroque and Victorian design.
This carpet would be perfectly at home in a formal room with gilding, elegant antique furniture, and brocades throughout. It has a classic feel that is refined and elegant. It also has an aged look that gives it a shabby chic feel, too. Romance pink and millennial pink are among the most popular color trends...

At Boccara Gallery, we have an important collection of Aubusson rugs from the 18th-20th century. The style developed in Aubusson is recognized today as one of the most influential of the European rug and tapestries History.
Workshops to produce Aubusson flat-woven rugs were established under the royal warrant in 1743 to manufacture pile carpets primarily for the nobility.
Many weavers who settled in France were Huguenots who had fled Spain during the Inquisition in the early 16th century. By issuing the edict of Nantes, Henry IV granted all non-Catholics freedom of worship, thereby protecting the carpet weavers in Aubusson. Aubusson weavers became the finest craftsmen in the world. Louis XIV’s influential Prime Minister Colbert established the long and hard...

Noah Old World Sensational Antique Caucasian Geometric Antique Kazak Tribal Rug
About: A gorgeous antique kazak from a region where rug weaving has been so significant to the people, land, and culture. arguably the greatest rug weaving territory, the caucasus are known for weaving highly artistic and very desirable pieces with their piercing blues, rich reds, calming camel and taupes, and soft beige, amongst other colors. the strong designs are all very territorial and due to lots of turmoil in their area - some designs become hybrids with other tribal designs to evolve into new patterns and "remix" or patterns and motifs if you will. this piece is a powerful tribal antique kazak woven in the southern region or the "low-land" caucasians. organic wool foundation with wool pile speaking to it's nomadic nature, this piece lots of symbolism and alchemy at play which is one of the things we are always searching for. in this piece, you will see "running water", mountain motifs, ram horns, and more. these navy blues paired with lighter french...

Antique Caucasus Soumak Kilim Sumac Rug, Caucasian Natural Carpet
Located in Tokyo, JP
This is a large Antique Soumak ( Sumak, Sumac ) Kilim from the Caucasus region with a rare and beautiful color composition.
Of the four countries that make up the Caucasus, Azerbaijan produces the most kilims, and the land has a long history of weaving. The nomadic tribes wove kilims and carpets as well as a wide range of storage bags and sacks, such as saffrash, khurgin and chula, and donkey and horse trappings. Smaller bags for salt, utensils, and other items are also common. Not only are the Azerbaijani weavers prolific, but they also employ many techniques at the loom. These include slitweave- known locally by the word kilim, warp-faced patterning (jajim), supplementary weft (zili), weft wrapping (popularly known as soumak), and extra weft wrapping (verneh). Furthermore, flatweaves are defined by regional names such as palas and shadda, so it is possible to ascribe a variety of weaving names to particular provenances as follows: soumaks are made in Kuba, palas, and kilims in Hajikabul, zili in Khizy, verneh and zili in Kazakh, shadda, verneh and zili in Barda, jajim in Agjabedi, and palas and kilims in Jabrail.
Soumak weave is a technique in which new weft threads are added to a plain weave fabric, and one or two warp threads are wound from the front to the back. The resulting kilim is denser and firmer, giving it a unique feel and look. This technique is commonly used in the Caucasus region.
Soumak Kilims have a very beautiful contrast between orange that shines like the sun, deep purple-tinged indigo, and astringent dark red. You can also see the unevenly dyed abrage in this sumac, which is like a magic carpet with an oriental atmosphere.
Features of the Caucasian kilim, such as the unique cosmic geometric floral pattern, are also found in this Soumak. It has a bright look, but it also has a faded and textured feel, so it can be used in a good old atmosphere. The woven fabric is particularly solid, so it is recommended for use in a solid living room or under a dining table without moving or twisting. A nice kilim under a long wooden dining table.
