About the Item
An open passage dedicated to public transit beneath the houses and palazzi of Venice in order to cope with the limited space offered by the lagoon city, the sottovolto or sottoportico is undoubtedly an unmistakable aspect of Venetian architecture whose creation goes back to the origins of the Most Serene Republic. The oldest? Possibly the 13th century sottovolto of Corte Seconda del Milion near the ancient foundations of Marco Polo's houses near Rialto.
Just like its "twin" design Sottoportico, the brand is iconic due to its evocative strength and strong visual impact, Sottovolto was designed by Seraina Lareida. It represents a homage to the architecture of Venice and its water-lappyed porticoes.
The harmony of abstract positions are extremely evocative in terms of form and color. It aims to evoke the architectural compositions of the lagoon city and the unmistakable nuances of reflected light and color. Typical of its buildings, in continual relation to the waters of the Venetian lagoon and their constantly changing colors.
