About the Item
Edward Fields vintage wall tapestry/carpet, sculptured wool, artist signed, Burt Groedel, 1970’s
Pollenaise is the title of this fabulous work of art.
100% virgin wool face, luxurious, thick sculptured carpet/tapestry. Retains the original Velcro used to hang this piece and the Edward Fields label. A second label is present, but obscured.
Burt Groedel, 1937-1988 was an American Post-War Contemporary artist. He worked with Edward Fields on a number of designs including the present model, Pollenaise, and a charming piece titled I've Grown Accustomed to Your Pace which features a snail motif. Playful, brightly colored images of fantastic creatures are reminiscent of the Surrealist Movement.
Condition: Very Good, commensurate with age, a few very minor barely perceptible blemishes, will benefit from a light steaming to even out the wool surface once in place.
Reference: about the maker from the Edward Fields company biography-
Edward Fields invented the term ‘area rug’ and produced these pieces, which he called ‘art for the floor’, both in house and through collaborations with the best designers and artists of mid-century America, including Raymond Loewy, Mies Van der Rohe, Phillip Johnson, Van Day Truex and Marion Dorn.
