About the Item
Originating circa 1950-1960 as a vintage Bessarabian flat-weave Kilim, the style of this piece is distinctly Romanian, a country famed as the origin of some of the most celebrated Bessarabian Kilim designs archetypal of the European Kilim style. Hand knotted using wool, this vintage Romanian floral flat-weave Kilim rug features a black background upon which sits a center floral bouquet of flowers in reds, pinks and blues, while a parrot of the same colors sits atop a yellow branch, wings outreached and tail feathers long. On each side of the centerpiece, bouquets comprising complimentary flowers sit with red flowers and green leaves. This vintage Bessarabian Kilim also features at each corner of the three bouquets, groups of flowers to frame the centerpieces. A floral border along the entire perimeter of the piece features pink lilies, red-and-pink roses and blue-and-yellow forget-me-nots, set atop green leaves. The 6’5 x 11’11 measurements of this flat-weave Kilim piece afford the perfect centerpiece to enhance a living-room space or sitting area, likewise the play of delicious floral hues against a rich background command an elegance like that renowned among the vintage Bessarabian.
