About the Item
This 19th century Caucasian Shirvan rug from the southern Azerbaijan region is a rare example of tribal artistry, woven in an elegant allover paisley (boteh) pattern. The field features a distinctive abrash French blue palette with beautifully layered tonal variations in blue and green, achieved through the use of hand-dyed vegetable pigments. The ivory border is framed with classic geometric motifs in red, blue, and yellow, adding a striking contrast to the expressive tribal composition. Worn from generations of history yet remarkably charming, this authentic piece carries a refined “shabby chic” aesthetic—perfect for Bohemian, or eclectic modern interiors.

The design is punctuated by stylized blossoming motifs in shades of coral, and ivory, creating a sense of movement and depth. The intricately detailed border, with interlocking floral and vine patterns, elegantly frames the composition, adding to its timeless charm.
Malayer rugs are prized for their intricate detailing, fine craftsmanship, and unique village-inspired aesthetic.
