About the Item

This striking late 19th century Caucasian Karabagh gallery rug, woven in the final quarter of the 1800s, exemplifies the bold geometry, vivid colorwork, and commanding presence for which Karabagh rugs are revered. Designed in an elongated corridor format, this rare gallery rug was traditionally created for grand estates and stately interiors. The expansive abrash navy and French blue field is energized by an elegant allover geometric pattern, featuring a harmonious palette of sapphire blue, emerald green, brick red, warm brown, soft pink, and golden yellow. The skillful use of abrash creates subtle movement across the surface, enhancing its visual depth and antique character. Framing the composition is a richly saturated chocolate brown primary border, adorned with crisply articulated geometric motifs in red, blue, yellow, and green, offering dramatic contrast and architectural balance. The result is a rug that conveys both ornament and power, reflecting the prestige of the great estates and formal corridors for which these gallery rugs were originally commissioned. Vintage Persian Heriz Karajah Area Rug in Pale Blue, Pink, Green, Rust Red
Located in Barrington, IL
This vintage Persian Karajeh area rug from the first quarter of the 20th century is a stunning example of traditional Northwest Persian village weaving. Handwoven with a refined sense of proportion and symmetry, the rug features a classic Karajeh layout with three geometric medallions arranged along a deep navy blue field. The medallions are rendered in soft abrash blues and pinks, creating a beautifully weathered, time-worn aesthetic that is both subtle and expressive. A rust-red border surrounds the field, decorated with charming tribal motifs in complementary tones that highlight the artisan's attention to detail. With its distressed look, softened palette of pale blue, green, pink, and rust red, and naturally aged character, this rug offers timeless appeal. Ideal for adding warmth, color, and authenticity to both modern and traditional interiors, it is a versatile piece of woven history. Vintage Caucasian Karabagh Area Rug in Allover Pattern in Blue, Brown

Vintage Karabagh area rug from the Armenian village weavers of the Caucasus mountains circa the early 1900s. The Karabagh rug has a wonderful and highly desirable and seeked allover pattern in an abrash brown background with a royal blue border with design accent colors in red, green, and yellow. It has a wonderful abrash brown/black field color which is a manifestation of the use of vegetable dyes which beautifully sets up the design of small flower heads in red, yellow, and green and variations of those colors resulting from the use of organic vegetable dyes which develop into various shades over time.
