About the Item

An extraordinary and rare example of late 19th-century Caucasian weaving, this Shirvan Perpedil area rug originates from the Kuba district in what is now Azerbaijan. Unlike most Perpedil rugs, which typically feature a deep blue ground, this piece is distinguished by its exceptionally rare camel hair field—a prized feature among collectors and connoisseurs. Woven with a refined geometric composition, the rug displays the Perpedil ram’s horn motifs, symbolic of strength and protection, arranged in a symmetrical, tribal layout. The ivory-toned border showcases classic Caucasian geometric patterns, providing a striking contrast that elevates the rug’s visual balance and artistry.
