About the Item

This exceptionally bold Antique Fachralo Kazak Rug is a classic and highly collectible textile from the South Caucasus, dating to circa 1880. Measuring 136 x 209 cm (approx. 4'6" x 6'10"), its powerful design and vivid palette make it a commanding focal point for any traditional or contemporary interior. The design is centered on a field of saturated madder red, which prominently features a large, deeply stepped central gül (medallion) set on a rectangular panel of deep indigo/navy blue. The medallion is highly stylized with geometric hooks and intricate internal symmetry, rendered in contrasting colors of cream, red, and sage green. This central element is often flanked by stylized niş (niche) or smaller geometric cartouches, completing the classic Fachralo composition. The rug is framed by a remarkably wide and visually energetic cream/ivory border densely populated with repeating, eight-pointed star motifs in bright red, blue, and green. This star-patterned border is a definitive hallmark of the finest Fachralo examples. Woven from robust, hand-spun wool with a thick, plush pile, and colored exclusively with deep, enduring natural dyes, this rug embodies the strength, authenticity, and historical charm of nomadic Caucasus weaving.
