About the Item

This antique Karabagh runner has a tobacco-brown field with an overall design of horizontal rows of linked bold ivory and mole-brown swags together with tied acanthus leaves forming cartouches each containing a perching bird and floral motifs, stylized vases with pairs of elaborate tied ribbons at each end, in a tobacco-brown border of ivory delicate vine linking flowerheads between ivory stripes with delicate lines of tobacco-brown dot-motifs, plain outer narrow tobacco-brown stripes. Karabagh rugs, originating from the Karabagh region in the South Caucasus (now part of modern-day Azerbaijan and Armenia), are renowned for their rich colors, bold geometric patterns, and intricate floral designs. These rugs reflect a blend of Persian, Turkish, and Caucasian influences, often featuring medallions, stylized animals, and vivid motifs. Traditionally handwoven using wool, Karabagh rugs are prized for their craftsmanship and durability, making them valuable both as functional items and as works of art. Their unique aesthetic has made them highly collectible among antique and textile enthusiasts worldwide.
