In this rare and unusual antique Kazak rug, the repeating hooked element in the field is related to the so-called 'animal-tree' motif, an ancient symbol at the origin of a good portion of the iconography seen on tribal rugs of different provenance. It’s curious to see how the weaver decided to skip the motif at the top of the central row, substituting it with a more delicate green paisley element.
