This antique Caucasian rug features a brilliantly drawn repeat field of stylized latch-hook medallions and angular floral devices, arranged in a highly rhythmic geometric lattice. The saturated brick-red ground sets off the crisp ivory and indigo motifs, creating the energetic yet balanced aesthetic characteristic of late 19th–early 20th century Shirvan and Kuba weaving.
The borders are especially striking: a bold ivory main border with serrated leaf-and-wine motifs, flanked by deep navy guard borders filled with tiny rosettes. The interplay of sharp geometry and rich natural dyes reflects the best qualities of traditional Caucasian craftsmanship.
