Handwoven antique Sumakh rug from Azerbaijan, crafted circa 1900.
This early Sumakh features a series of bold octagonal medallions arranged along a terracotta field, framed by detailed geometric motifs in deep navy and soft complementary tones. The intricate patterning and characteristic Caucasian symbols reflect the precision and balance typical of traditional Sumakh weaving. Each element is carefully arranged, creating a composition that feels both lively and harmonious.
Woven from wool on a wool foundation, the rug has the textured, slightly raised feel associated with classic Sumakh technique. The natural dyes have aged beautifully, lending the piece a warm and grounded presence.
Size: 11'4 × 8'7 (346 cm × 263 cm), a substantial format well suited for both decorative and functional use.
