About the Item
Garden carpets are among the most refined manifestations of textile art expressed by the 17th Century Safavid dynasty. During the nineteenth century, the pattern derived form the representation of the Persian garden became the subject of various stylisations. On this fine white ground example originating from Sarab, located in the heartland of Azerbaijan, we see four hexagonal main islands centred around a cluster of smaller islands, the latter being embellished by stylised trees.
