About the Item
The Anglo-Swiss firm of Ziegler
Co. was active during the late nineteenth century in the Sultanabad region. These are typically characterised by classical patterns rendered in highly refined colours, where the wool yarns are masterfully dyed so to create an almost translucent effect. This example, distinguished by a soft terracotta background framed by a sky blue border, showcases an all-over pattern of scrolling palmettes and rosettes, executed with the refined stylisation which distinguishes Ziegler rugs. Historically, prestigious Western interiors have prominently featured these carpets. perfect harmony between the soft palette and the aristocratic design is the reason why Ziegler carpets are one of the most highly demanded typologies among antique decorative rugs, and have historically been employed in the most prestigious Western interiors.
