This early 20th century Caucasian Shirvan rug, measuring 2' 3" x 3' 5", features a finely executed allover lattice pattern characteristic of the Shirvan weaving tradition. The ivory field is filled with a repeating geometric design composed of angular, cross-like motifs in deep indigo, interspersed with hooked elements in warm red and subtle touches of soft green. This rhythmic arrangement creates a visually engaging, almost textile-like surface. The main border presents a striking series of eight-pointed stars in alternating colors of navy, ivory, and crimson, set against an ivory ground, each star surrounded by smaller accent devices. Narrow guard borders, including a thin inner band in dark blue with a continuous meander, frame the composition and provide contrast to the crisp light field. The precise drawing, balanced color palette, and harmonious proportions reflect the high level of craftsmanship for which Shirvan rugs are celebrated, making this piece both decorative and collectible.
