About the Item

This exceptional mid-19th century Caucasian Karabagh gallery rug features one of the rarest and most sought-after field colors in antique rug weaving: a luminous pistachio green. Woven in the mountainous Karabagh region of the Caucasus, this elongated gallery-format rug exemplifies the bold artistic tradition for which the area is celebrated. The softly abrash pistachio green and earthy brown field is animated by a dynamic allover geometric medallion design, rendered in harmonious tones of deep blue, emerald green, brick red, warm brown, and soft golden yellow. The composition is framed by a richly saturated dark brown primary border, intricately decorated with multicolored geometric motifs that provide striking contrast and depth. The rug displays a naturally aged, distressed patina, the result of more than a century of history and use. While it shows visible wear consistent with its age, the integrity of the design, the vibrancy of the remaining natural dyes, and the artistic impact remain powerfully intact. Vintage Persian Kurdish Tribal Area Rug/Wide Runner in Geometric Pattern in Blue
Located in Barrington, IL
Vintage Persian Kurdish tribal area rug or a wide runner, meticulously hand-knotted circa the early 1900s. Originating from the skilled Kurdish weavers of Persia, these rugs are renowned for their distinctive geometric designs, rich palettes, and the enduring quality of their village weaving traditions. This versatile Kurdish rug features a captivating geometric pattern that unfolds gracefully across its field. The central design is defined by a striking series of seven small medallions arranged in a single column, creating a strong visual anchor. The main field itself presents a harmonious interplay of deep blue and warm rust colors, providing a rich and inviting backdrop for the intricate motifs. This rug's wonderful design is further enhanced by the expert use of natural vegetable dyes. These organic pigments not only provide brilliant, saturated colors but also develop a beautiful patina and subtle tonal variations (abrash) over time, a hallmark of authentic village weavings that only adds to their beauty and character. The entire composition is elegantly framed by multiple borders, each displaying their own beautiful colors and intricate geometric designs. These layered borders provide depth and sophistication, perfectly complementing the central field and completing this charming village carpet from the early 1900s.
