About the Item
A finely hand-knotted antique Afghan rug, woven in the Aqcha region of northern Afghanistan, displaying classic Tekke Turkmen-inspired guls within a soft, time-worn palette. The central field features two large octagonal guls enclosed by geometric borders of hooked and floral motifs, all rendered in muted tones of soft red, beige, and grey-brown. At one end, an inscription woven in Arabic numerals reads “1347 AH,” corresponding to circa 1928–29 AD, confirming its early 20th-century origin.
Woven in fine wool on a wool foundation, this rug typifies the craftsmanship of settled Afghan weavers emulating Turkmen designs, noted for their supple handle, balanced symmetry, and enduring decorative appeal. Its naturally faded tones and patinated surface lend quiet sophistication, making it ideal for both traditional and contemporary interiors.

tear, etc.
