About the Item
Carpets from the non-Turkoman populations of central Asia such as the Uzbeks, the Karakalpaks and the Kirghiz began appearing in the West since the fall of the Soviet empire. As there is very little literature about them, they represent a very interesting core of weavings which, together with their related embroideries, tests and other tribal trappings, are now one of the most actively collected areas among rug connoisseurs.
This richly coloured Uzbek main carpet has a design composed of a central row of three large diamonds with appendages, flanked by a visually dynamic chevron pattern. It has the added bonus of being in pristine condition, with a full silky wool pile and with original sides and flat-woven ends.
A rug that has the authenticity of a collector's piece, yet at the same time has plenty of decorative possibilities.
