Originating from East Turkestan in the 1920s, this antique transitional Khotan rug from Rug
Kilim has an individualistic interpretation of idyllic regional symbolism. Handwoven in high-quality wool, the all-over field design features a muted take on pomegranate imagery—important regional symbols of fertility and bountiful harvest—in uniquely subtle beige above a light blue-green background. This uncommon color choice is accented by the starkness of black ruyi clouds and curving characters wrapping both the inner and outer borders; a likely intentional choice by the weaver, as many Khotan pieces were known for celebrating their unique identity.
