About the Item
On this graphic kilim from the Qashqa'i tribe, we see an horizontally arranged pattern composed of an alternation of polychrome squares and a honeycomb matrix of sawtooth-edged triangles. The diagonal colour distribution of the squares is counterpointed by the apparently random palette of the triangles. What results is a composition that is in perpetual motion, as if continuing beyond the limits imposed by the border. A great example of that colour mastery that is a characteristic trait of the best flat-weaves of the Qashqa’i.
