Antique Tekke Turkmen rug of fine weave and small size
Circa 1870-80
These rugs are considered to be ‘dowry’ weavings woven by the Turkmen bride for use on her wedding day
This example has 4 rows of 7 Tekke guls, the main border is of the star in octagon with sunburst design The main border design is very similar to that found on a Tekke main carpet The weave is finer than would normally be found on this type of rug
The rug has very fine soft wool with excellent colour
The rug is in excellent condition with even wear and medium pile
The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use or display
